Early in the war young Americans were inspired by an older extension who pictured war as a romantic and anthropoid adventure. They saw the war as a test of noble-mindedness and manhood. There hadnt been a war since the splendid olive-sized war of 1898 so Americans had forgotten what it was like. But nonetheless nigh Americans favored the Allied cause. trade with the Allies was much more important that with the important Powers. Industry was huge. But most difficult was the matter of neutral trade. Wilson insisted on Americans right to trade with both sides and with other neutrals. Great Britain then instituted an illegal naval forestall and began seizing American ships. Wilson eventually accepted British chasten of the sea. Germany then retaliated with submarine warfare.
The first sensitive strike was in March 1915, when a German sub sank a British liner that included one American.
